With the release of Streamlabs OBS for Mac, a common support request is 'Why can't I capture desktop audio?' Unlike Windows, macOS does not have any system-level audio routing. This means that individual apps can't access audio signal from other apps out of the box. However, there are multiple software solutions out there that accomplish this.

In the Multiplatform version of OBS you can right away select more than the usual 2 devices. The option to add specific devices to each scene is also already included. So if you run into problems with OBS and the DShow Audio Plugin, you might want to give OBS-MP a try. Head back to Settings – Audio in OBS and take a look at the Advanced section. It has a drop-down from which you can select the device you want to listen in with. Select as appropriate, then hit Apply and OBS will monitor with that device (even when you’re already live or recording).

1. Open your web browser of choice and log into StreamLabs with your Twitch account. Be sure to allow authorization as this is needed for you to import your chat with OBS.
2. On the left you should see a list of features, select “All Widgets” and then choose “Chat Box”.

You can choose between the Theme of the chat, font size, how long the messages last, what icons, emblems and emotes are shown.There are also other options that you can tinker with until you have everything set the way you want it. 4. Once you have all the settings the way that you want it choose to save the settings.
5. Above the preview you will find your Widget URL. Choose to Copy it to save it to your clipboard.

7. Choose to add a new source by pressing the plus symbol, and choose “Browser” or “Browser Source”. If you don’t have either of these options you may need to reinstall your OBS and be sure to choose to install this plugin.
8. Name the source if needed and choose to continue. Paste the URL and select the width and height that you want. These are in pixels and you can always adjust the values later.

9. Press ok then move and transform the new source to be placed where and how you want. If you go to your twitch channel and type in the chat you should see the message in your OBS. You can use this to see how the chat will look when you’re live.
When aiming for a high quality professional stream it’s common for you to set up multiple scenes. This means you will need to set up each source individually for each scene that you want the chat to be shown. Thankfully the process doesn’t take too much time.
